Photodynamic therapy (PDT) can be used to treat skin cancer precursors (sogenic actinic keratos) as well as skin cancer in early stages.
In the first step of the PDT, a drug is applied as a cream, gel or patch to the altered skin, which accumulates within a few hours in the altered skin cells. Afterwards, the active substance is activated with a special light.
As a result, the malignant cells die later and are replaced by healthy cells. We already have more than a decade of experience in the application of photodynamic therapy. Private health insurers usually reimburse the costs. Statutory insured persons must bear the costs themselves. More information on the PDT procedure can be found here: www.biofrontera.com.
The PDT is also suitable for large-scale skin rejuvenation. The Daylight-PDT variant is mostly used here.
