In case of hyperhidrosis, we achieve a reduction in excessive sweat production for our patients with BTX.
If the sweating occurs independently of external influences and uncontrolled, then the medicine speaks of hyperhidrosis. The sweat glands produce more than is necessary for the natural regulation of body temperature. For many sufferers, this means a noticeable limitation in everyday life, whether through visible sweat spots, damp hands or a lasting feeling of uncertainty in social situations.
With the BTX treatment of hyperhidrosis, we start precisely at the overactive signal transmission between nerve and sweat gland. This reduces the activity of the glands, so that the production in the treated areas decreases noticeably. An exact analysis of the causes is important: Are they of a physical or neurological nature?
We will be happy to answer these questions in a first consultation. Make your appointment online or by phone.
Depending on the shape and the area concerned, the treatment is adapted and coordinated in several steps.
Advice & Classification
First of all, we clarify whether there is hyperhidrosis in need of treatment and which areas are affected. It is also clarified whether it is a primary form or whether further medical examination is useful.
Injection
The BTX is injected directly into the affected skin areas in several small injections. The aim is to reduce the overactive signal transmission to the sweat glands locally.
Effect
In the following days the activity of the sweat glands decreases. The sweat production in the treated area decreases significantly without affecting the natural regulation of the body as a whole.
Durability & Refreshment
The effect usually lasts for several months. With time, the activity of the sweat glands increases again, so that the treatment can be repeated if necessary. The intervals are adjusted individually.
The treatment is generally considered to be well tolerated. Temporarily mild redness, burning or a small swelling at the injection sites may occur. These reactions usually resolve within a short time.
A treatment can be useful if sweat production goes well beyond normal levels and is perceived as burdensome in everyday life. Many sufferers report that conventional measures such as antiperspirants or adjustments in everyday life do not have sufficient effect.
Typical signs of hyperhidrosis requiring treatment may be:
However, not every increased sweating is in need of dermatological treatment. In some cases, other underlying diseases or neurological causes can play a role. If there is a suspicion of a secondary form of hyperhidrosis, a corresponding clarification or forwarding is carried out.
Medically, a distinction is made between a primary and a secondary form of hyperhidrosis, a differentiation that is crucial for the choice of treatment.
The primary form occurs without any apparent underlying disease and often begins in younger years. It usually affects clearly defined areas such as armpits, hands, feet or the face. Typical is an overactive reaction of the nervous system, which leads to an increased activity of the sweat glands, regardless of temperature or physical stress.
The secondary form is the result of an underlying disease or external influences. This may include hormonal changes, neurological diseases or certain medications. In these cases, the focus is not on the direct treatment of the sweat glands, but on the clarification and treatment of the cause.
The activity of the sweat glands is controlled by the vegetative nervous system. In doing so, nerves emit impulses that stimulate the glands to produce sweat. In the case of hyperhidrosis, this signal transmission is overactive. The sweat glands are activated more frequently and more strongly than would be necessary for the natural regulation of the body temperature. BTX applies precisely this mechanism. Through the injection, the transmission of nerve impulses to the sweat glands is temporarily blocked. The glands receive fewer signals for activation, thereby significantly reducing sweat production in the treated area.
For some symptoms of welding, common means such as deodorants or other blockers are not sufficient. In these cases, the production of welding is so increased that it becomes a heavy burden for those affected.
For primary hyperhidrosis, we offer BTX in our private dermatological practice in Berlin, a tried and tested method for reduction in the affected areas, with the aim of making everyday life more pleasant for our patients and the social participation more stress-free.
Whether and to what extent treatment makes sense can best be clarified in a personal conversation. At Myskin-Berlin, we take the time to precisely classify your situation and find a suitable approach together. Please arrange your appointment online or by phone.
